Clear Aligner Treatment Planning: Insights from AJO-DO Study

We’d like to share insights from a recent publication in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics (AJO-DO) that highlights the impact of 3D visualization on clear aligner treatment planning.¹

The Study

Orthodontists who initially approved crown-based treatment plans often revised their decisions after seeing CBCT-based root and bone visualizations.

Issues such as dehiscence and fenestrations in root and bone views often changed initial positive assessments made from crown views alone.

What This Means for You

By integrating 3D Predict software into your aligner workflow, you can:

  • Offer a more advanced, clinically trusted solution
  • Differentiate your aligner product in a competitive market
  • Build stronger partnerships with doctors by helping them achieve safer and more predictable outcomes

How It Works

While you may be familiar with the crown-based plan (left), the Deep CBCT plan (right) might be new to you. When uploading a CBCT scan, 3D Predict unlocks two additional modules:

  • Root module – visualizing real root and bone anatomy
  • Bone module – highlighting cortical plate thickness

The Results

These findings highlight the value of 3D imaging and AI in improving treatment precision and clinical outcomes.
